Located in the Eastern coast of the Indian Peninsula, the State of Odisha holds a rich cultural heritage spanning over hundreds of years. It is a place of ancient monuments and temples of archaeological and religious importance of the bygone era.
Odisha has 62 tribes, that is 24% of the State's population. These includes the primitive "Bondas", ancient tribe "Sauras", worrier tribe "Santhals" & "Gonds" and oldest tribe "Gadva".
    The natural heritage of the state is equally rich with 19 Sanctuaries including 1 Marine Sanctuary, 2 National Parks, 2 Tiger reserves, 3 Elephant reserves and one Biosphere Reserve as habitat of various wild animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fishes. It houses more than 500 species of birds and around seven Important Bird Areas (IBAs). Two wetlands of International importance have been declared as Ramsar sites. Within the 480km of coastline there exists some of the pristine beaches with a few being famous mass nesting sites of the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. The Koraput region in the southern part has been declared as the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems.
    Amidst the hills and valleys of the Eastern Ghats there exists numerous scenic waterfalls, gorges and rapids, many of them hardly known to the world.
